Spice Mi 270 – An Android smartphone cheaper than traditional phones

Are you planning to buy a touch screen phone in low budget. What if I say you can grab an Android mobile in that budget itself (or even cheaper)?
Yesterday Spice notified us regarding their decision of a massive price drop in the price of Spice MI 270 from Rs. 5100 to Rs. 3,399, thereby making it the cheapest Android mobile in India (earlier it was Micromax Andro A60).
While a couple of months ago we were assuming Micromax to take the lead in revolutionizing the entry level Android mobile segment, Spice changed the game at once. The company has now maximum numbers of affordable Android mobiles in their bag. Kudos!!!
Well coming back to Spice MI 270, its an entry level handset with Android 2.2 onboard. Other specs goes as below:
  • 2.8 inch, 320x240px, 65k Resistive touchscreen
  • Dual SIM (GSM+GSM)
  • 2 MP Camera, No front camera
  • GPS, WI-Fi, No 3G, Can work as Wi-Fi hotspot
  • 416 Mhz processor
  • 221 MB inbuilt memory, expandable upto 16GB
  • Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery
Spice MI270 obviously has some weak points, but remember, we are not comparing it with any high-end Android mobile but other touch screen feature phones available at a similar price point.
Big question: Should you buy one?
Android does very well in term of usability. So if you want a mobile not for multimedia, but for doing all the web/office stuffs on the go, you can consider buying it. However please consider the average battery backup and absence of 3G before taking the final decision.
Well if you want one for gaming, crisp clear videos and other high end multimedia stuffs, please stay away.
We have requested for the review sample, will provide the hands on review asap.
