2G Scam: Swamy submits proof against Chidambaram

Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy has submitted copies of what he calls documentary evidence on Home Minister P Chidambaram's involvement in the 2G spectrum scam before a Special Judge in Delhi. The case has now been adjourned to Januray 21.

The documents include memos of the Finance Ministry, the CIT and copies of letters exchanged between Chidambaram who was the then Finance Minister, and former telecom minister A Raja and the Prime Minister.

Swamy told the court that he wanted to make Chidambaram a co-accused in the 2G scam. He has alleged that Chidambaram colluded with Raja on matters related to fixing of the spectrum, allowing the dilution of shares of two companies Unitech and Swan.

Swamy claimed that Chidambaram was involved in criminal breach of trust and had compromised national security.

He will now argue on summoning Chidambaram based on the documents produced on January 21.

Swamy, in an application to a Delhi court last year, had said, “The fact that the above named two ministers (Raja and Chidambaram) together decided that the prices of spectrum and entry fee should be lumped together at the 2001 level and decided against the market price of 2007-08 period for the entry fee, is confirmed by the speech of the Prime Minister in Rajya Sabha on February 24, 2011.”

The court had on December 8, 2011, allowed Swamy to testify in support of his private complaint, seeking prosecution of Chidambaram in the case.

The court said Swamy “was not prevented in law” from bringing fresh evidence about the roles of “other conspirators” in the scam.

Special CBI Judge OP Saini allowed the plea of Swamy that in view of his knowledge of “fresh evidence” on identity of other conspirators, he be allowed to depose again in the case.
