Posted on January 4, 2012. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Hi,

We require to understand how to install Joomla on various platforms and how to operate the same by ourselves only. This blog is for total no voice like me, who has learned the lesson hard way.

For installation you require a server which supports the MySQL and php. There are many sites which provide the same such as p4o.net zymic.com etc.. for free. These free webhosting companies have disabled the one click installation of Joomla or other cms systems.

I am installing the same on XAMMP platform for designing and development purpose, so later I will migrate to a better platform or an external server for the world to view.

Xammp can googled, downloaded and installed on windows/linux easily by only a single click. I have installed in D: /. Then location will be D:/Xammp and restart the computer and start the Xammp server. Xammp server installation can be found in my earlier blog.

Step 1

Download the Joomla package.

Step 2

Copy the zip folder to the htdocs folders which is present in the d:/xampp/htdocs

Step 3

Extract the package into folder. And rename the folder to whatever name you wish. I named it Joomla.

Step 4

Open a browser, I used chrome, and point it to http://localhost/joomla or instead of Joomla you can place the name what ever you have rename the folder in the Step 3.

Step 5

You will be directed to a webpage. Like the page below:-

Step 6

Press the next button after selecting language (I select English). On proceeding you will find the page checking for its prerequisites

Step 7

Press next button, then there will be GNU license. Accept and proceed

Step 8:-

In this step, select the database as the “Mysql” and provide the server name, username,  password available during the installation of the Xammp or the webserver provider. You can set  different parameters in the this settings.

It will work out and consume some time after the installation click

Step 9:-

It will have now come to FTP configuration, for which I will state, that I will leave the same blank. And press next

Step 10:-

Fill the information required and press next. I do not want to install the sample data.

Step 11:-

Now we are at the finished Stage, remove the installation folder if you want.

Step 12:-

Press the button for Administrator in the upper right corner. You will be directed to a page like the below.

Login using the password and user mentioned in step 10.

Step 13

You are logged into the backend administration of Joomla

Step 14:-

Explore the interface and whatever you add or do, gets reflected on the http://localhost/whateverfolderyouhavenamed

In my case http://localhost:8080/joomla is the address of the website.

Thanks for reading the tutorial.
